Located in the north end of the Grande Ronde Valley, the town of Summerville was settled in 1865 andnamed for Alexander Summerville, an early valley settler.   Originally a small settlement along the Umatilla Indian Trail and was a stage stop for weary travelers heading into the Grande Ronde Valley via the Tollgate pass, Summerville has had a long and varied history.

In it's hey day it was the primary commercial center north of  La Grande.  It was the site of a major stage coach stop and for years was a very lively town.  It is located at 45.48 degrees and 118 degrees west.

Summerville of today is home to many.  With an elevation of 1705 feet and its north valley location it is a highly scenic area of rural homes and acreages.  It's location in the valley offers superb views of Mt Emily and all the mountains that surround the Grande Ronde Valley.  With water plentiful it continues to draw people of independent spirit who are searching for that special property to call home.  Summerville has many farms and ranches for sale, as well as homes and land for sale.
