Island City is the city closest to La Grande, and in fact, they are really one in the same. Island City is home to many of the commercial properties in the area including Wal Mart and other big box type stores. Island City also has many beautiful neighborhoods and a great school. You can find all types of Real Estate in Island City, just east of La Grande.
The Grande Ronde River once flowed around Island City, creating an island and giving the city its name. The river has long since been diverted, but the name stuck. Island City has many features, but one of the biggest draws is the La Grande County Club. If you are a golfing enthusiast, be sure to check it out.
Island City also has some of the areas newer subdivisions, the Crooked river subdivision. Lots are large and the homes being built are protected by covenants and conditions. No manufactured homes in that neighborhood!
A walking and bike path is in the works that will stretch from Island City to Riverside Park in La Grande. This path will follow the Grande Ronde River and be perfect for those wishing to walk in nature just outside the city.
Shopping is great in the Island City area, with many stores and the big ones too. The car dealerships are primarily located on the Island City Strip, including Legacy Ford. Be sure to shop local whenever possible!
Island City, like La Grande, is quite close the rural areas which make the Grande Ronde Valley so appealing. You are just moments away from the forest or the fields. There are plenty of ranches just outside the city to help frame the beautiful mountain view.
