Union County Real Estate | Union County Oregon Real Estate
Union County is a wonderful place to call home. The cities in Union County are Grande, Island City, Cove, Union, Elgin, Summerville, North Powder and Imbler. Our county features forest and mountains, beautiful homes and buildings, lakes and streams, fishing, shopping, hiking, bike riding, horse back riding, and so much, much more!
Union County is 2038 square miles. Quite huge when compared with the other 36 counties in Oregon. Our mountains are large and make for great outdoor recreation activities. We recently purchased as a county the Mount Emily Recreation Area or the MERA as it is known. It is a 3700 forested property full of wildlife and trails. On the southern edge, near La Grande, you will find the four wheeler training area and trails. To the north, you will find the horse and bike trails. The trees are tall and water and wildlife are abundant. The county purchased the property from the logging company Forest Capital over the course of 2008 and 2009.
Union County is home to the Ladd Marsh National Wildlife Refuge, located just a short drive or bike ride out of La Grande. It is a hot spot for migratory birds from all over the world. Be sure to stop by this beautiful area to view the wildlife if you come to Union County.
There are many hot springs in and around the area as well. Lehman Hot Springs, Cove Warm Springs and Dragonfly Springs (this one is my secret). Be sure to visit these places for their restorative water!
Union County is also home to the world famous Hot Lake Hotel, now under new ownership and scheduled to be completely renovated by 2011! It is home to a bronze foundry chaired by David and Lee Manuel. The lakes boiling water was seen as a cure all for more than a century and brought visitors from all over the world!
Union County also has an airport with a 5200 foot runway, long enough for your Lear Jet, you baller! So come on by for a visit!
